So yes I bought Stellaris and played it for about 2 hours last night and so far I am impressed There is the standard sort of resources, mining for minerals, harvest or create energy etc.  There is research for new technologies which covers a whole range of things.  So in that way it is similar to Homeworld or Sins of a Solar Empire.

You can build construction ships which do what they say, military vessels but at the moment I only have access to the corvette hull design.  On thing which is quite cool you can customise the load out on yours ships so in effect have a few different blueprints for the same hull.

There are science ships and colony ships so far. Colony ships do what you would expect and you use the science ships to go off exploring and surveying the galaxy.  The galaxy map is feckin huge it was set as medium galaxy as default.

There doesn’t seem much of a story other than build your empire and rule the galaxy it’s a bit like Rome in that sense but there is so much to control and manage.  Planets, space stations even down to who commands your ships and fleets.  It is also real time so you have to pay attention and make sure your boarders are defended if your fleet is a long way away you could get in trouble if attacked

It looks very pretty and could be good fun multiplayer but maybe a little slow paced for you Jeg.  I like it and will be interested to see how it plays as I get into it a bit more TCT

Hmmm
Hmmm

. Okay. So, is it slower paced than Homeworld? Mind you, I don't mind slower pace, per say. I don't however, like turn-based (with those hour-long waits you had in that RTS you played) - that just sounded stupid and pointless.

How would it work multiplayer?

To be honest, at the price they are charging I am highly unlikely to buy it unless it is on sale anyway, but be good to know if it gets on sale sometime.

No it's not turn based it is real time and probably about the same pace as Homeworld i would think

You can change the game speed to decrease build and research times or slow it down but why would you

Maybe you should do that live stream thing next time i am on then you can have a look?

With multiplayer you can host a multiplayer game which you can join and it can be saved by the host and continued at a future time.  I did read somewhere you can host a multuplayer campaign with up to 32 players but don't know this for sure.

That sounds like a good idea Meg. Perhaps I could have a ganders at you playing it tomorrow, before game-night (if you don't mind). That's assuming there even IS a game night this week, mind. Still, if Greg isn't around we can always Grim Dawn-it-some.

Any truth to this:?
First off, this is not a 4X game, it is not a strategy game when pitted against other games in the same genre. This is a story driven space game with some basic management, zero player interaction combat (the combat in this game is similar to watching grass dry) and for a real time game, it plays extremely slow. If you are looking for a Masters of Orion killer, this is not it, this could actually be better suited as a mobile game, as it seems to have been dumbed down for the masses.

The best way to summarise, this game is that is a polished but bland game that has little longevity, very little innovation and very little strategy.

Haven't really played it long enough to comment yet

I would say there does seem to be a lot to manage, it is a bit slow but as i said you can speed it up.  Combat is a little bland you just send your fleet to meet the other fleet and thats about all the control you have other than ordering it to run away

It may suit Greg more as it does have elements of supreme commander as for longevity i don't know yet

As for games night yes all ease fails we can GD it :-)

Well TCT for that. I will keep an eye on it - and take a peek at your game when I can to see if it's something I could get into.
