So where i am at with my poorly PC .  Overnight last night i ran a defrag as it had 18gb of fragged files

When i got in i ran the chkdsk as you suggested with f,r,x, bits which took about 4 hours.  After that was done i did a normal chkdsk and got

Which did seem ok i think so i ran that event log again but still have errors

Just for a bit more info i did a health scan of the drive on defraggler don't know if that helps?

I don't know if this is still buggered or is slowly dying but the computer seems to be running better and is loading windows first time with no crash errors or as i now know blue screen of death .  It is also loading it quicker than it has for weeks what do you think?

That's all well and good, but I said I needed the log from the chkdsk you ran with the additional checks for bad sectors - found in the event viewer. It should have asked you to restart the machine and do it outside of Windows, yes?

It is good that chkdsk seems to have improved things for you though. As for all those issues in the Event Viewer, those you will have to look into yourself. Some are garbage, others or not. Depends on how the machine is running really, as to how much you look into it - most machines have a few of these running around in the Event Viewer, don't think I have ever seen one that's completely "clean".

On a separate note, why in gods name is your solid state drive not the C: drive with Windows installed? That would speed up your PC a lot.

Yes it did ask me to restart the machine and then it did the 4 hour chkdsk.  I didn't see the log can i get it from the event viewer then?  If so i will have a look when i get in.

it has definitely improved things a lot so hopefully that is all it needed.

Yes when i first set up my PC i was really wasted and i didn't realise it had a SSD in it.  By the time i did i was balls deep so i carried on assuming i would reformat in a while and put it on the correct drive.  I still haven't done it yet

So over the weekend i thought i would install windows on my solid state then moves things over however was present

I have a proper copy of Win 7 and yet it will not install it gets to the part where you enter the CD key etc but the keyboard and mouse don't work? As soon as i cancel this and go back to the current installation they both work fine .  So the gremlins in my machine don't seem to be limited to one hard drive.

Argh!!!



To prevent my doing an X3 moment and throwing my PC out the window any ideas?  Would a format of both drives then a fresh install be the way i wonder?

On i different note i have saved all my files and save games to an external drive except Wildlands and Division can't find where they live or will they be saved on the Uplay cloud thing?

Sounds like you have had a few issues.

How can you get to the CD key part of the installation if both the KB and Mouse won't work? Are they USB? You will also have issues unless properly configured, trying to install two OS's like that. Changes will need to be made to allow you to multi-boot. Given your track record I would recommend you steer clear of it as it will only complicate things further. So, yes, a complete wipe of both drives could be the way forward.

As for savegames, yes they are UPlay. The freeware thread has a save game backup program in it you could try. THey are no doubt cloud backed up as well.

Also, get a copy of the Windows 10 ISO, do not install Windows 7 and do an upgrade - it'c cleaner and less likely to mess up down the road. Windows "Upgrades" are notorious for going wrong and causing issues. Your 7 key should work with 10.
