well, Jim and myself had an evening of this last night and although He'd played it the night prior to get into the swing of it, seemed to pick it up right away, probably quicker than I did when I first played.
I think when the man himself comments, he'd agree that it is by far a better game than the reviews would have you believe. I put it down to the fact we played it after the reviews, so weren't expecting the game of the year, but still, a lot of unfair points were raised, or at least over emphasized.
Angry Joe review Graphics comments would have you believe it's a pretty broken game, awaiting a hotfix/patch to sort it out into a playable game. Unless the review was based on the beta, I haven't had a single experience like that, but then, he didn't exactly state whether he had AMD/nvidia card, was trying to run SLI etc. or what drivers he was running. We did have an 'issue' last night where our gun animations disappeared so we both appeares to simple supply death with outstretched hands until another load/checkpoint though everything functioned fine.
Loot. They portray the game to primarily drop character appearance clothing, and term this as 'loot' which is your reward for completing missions etc. whilst there is this for of loot, which does nothing as to customize your character, you often get it alongside the real loot, which is found in crates, as rewards for completing missions, and on the corpses of fallen enemies. As i probably said before, it follows the borderlands style of color rarity, and adds in additional buffs to your overall character - % damage %skill damage %specific damage to specific skills such as duration, health, blast radius etc.
All enemies are exactly the same. Well, staying in the same area, playing the same missions results in the same enemies. At the start you'll only see about 3 variations of the basic 'rioter' then specific named 'bosses'. moving throughout the city, you'll discover about 4 different factions with about 3-4 different class types - 'shock' type, that get in close and melee, standard assault, sniper, grenadier. Granted after that, the only different enemy variation will be boss, but that's still 16 individual enemy types, or skins at least. The AI can be a bit dumb though, think gears of war - sometimes the AI gets a little confused as to the best place to seek cover when there are two of you suppressing/flanking and can just jump out of cover onto you. There is the truth that the fight mechanics are the same - they all attack you with guns and/or explosives, and use cover to cover and, no, there are no aliens but then, this is a tom clancy branded game, so it's never going to throw off the wall stuff at you.
Got stuck on stuff 3 times! last night i got stuck between an ammo box and the side of a subway train. First time getting stuck on the terrain, would suggest not trying to squeeze into small spaces you're not supposed to go - this isn't source engine, there are the odd invisible wall, and some walls you can't climb over etc.
going to be quiet about this game now. Realize I look like a prize fanboy trying to validate a purchase to everyone I secretly feel the same as every reviewer about

Some of the comments are valid, and you know exactly where they're coming from, but the reviews are really harsh.
*edit to add link, duh...
